How can we improve Power BI?

Custom Viz access to the previous levels in a drill-down

The current version of Power BI visualsation framework does not support access to the previous levels in a drill-down. I.e. you only get access to the current level when rendering. That makes it very hard to develop visualizations such as pivot tables or breakdown trees.

This would let custom viz developers add thing like pivot tables and Breakdown Trees :)

[This idea was created as an offshoot of https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/15844186-pivot-tables-and-breakdown-trees. Fredrik had initially asked for updates to the Custom Viz API, but many votes and comments were cast assuming the idea was just asking for the Power BI team to build Pivot Tables or Breakdown trees!]

    Hi,
Drill-down for custom visuals is now supported in the framework, so any developer can update their custom visual code to add drill-down support (where applicable).

Here is the announcement with the details: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Custom-Visuals-Community-Blog/Visual-API-1-6-and-Drill-down-capability-available/ba-p/190457

    Documentation is on GitHub: https://github.com/Microsoft/PowerBI-visuals/blob/master/Capabilities/Drilldown.md

At first sight these seemed great news but... How can we access the data values of all previous drill-down levels? Can you provide a sample on how to do it, so that the "Breakdown trees" developer can update it... so that it can be integrated in the last version of PowerBi?
@fredrik, am I misunderstanding this issue? Do you have reached a veredict about this situation? or we can assume that the "Breakdown Trees" project is suspended?
If this is true are there any known alternatives or other directions to turn?
        Thank you very much.

This idea is all about accessing previous levels of a drill-down, not the drill-down functionality alone. The announcement link only shows how to enable drill-down in a custom visual. Can you provide a sample where you access the data values of all previous drill-down levels?

Fantastic news! How we get the same drill down features which was available in 2015 Power BI API.

Awesome good to see finally it's started.
@fredrik will this idea is about the previous drill down; so it would be same old features.

I'm glad to see that the status went to STARTED. Will the capability include the possibility to access previous drill-down levels (which this idea is all about)? From Tzvi Keisar's description, this is not clearly stated.

Even though the voting have changed but this idea is the most requested & very important for custom visual. My votes for this idea

I notice since this week that the number of votes per idea has been reduced significantly. I personally think that this would defeat the whole purpose of Power BI Customs visuals. However this is good voting option.
        Thanks
