The tornado visual is excellent for comparing two different individuals across a range of metrics, however, I'd like to be able to sort it based on the largest values/differentials.
The sort option should include first adding up the two measures for the tornado chart, so that the most important groups come to the top - whether there is a high number on the "left" or "right" of the axis.

the workaround doesn't work for me. I just need to change the order of the Y axis to do a standard population pyramid graph (older age groups at the top).

I agree - the tornado visual is useful, but it doesn't have the same level of polish as the default visuals.
As a work-around to the sorting issue, you could try creating your visual as a stacked bar chart first, applying your sort, then changing it to a tornado chart. This worked for me.
