  1. Add expand/collapse feature to column headers

Vote on this idea if you want expand/collapse on column headers in the matrix similar to what was shipped for row headers in November (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-november-2018-feature-summary/#expandCollapse).

  3. Show column data profile statistics in header

Add a column data profile histogram in the data view for every column in Power BI Desktop. This handy feature exists in Power Query (sometimes only on sampled data).

Add this feature to Power BI Desktop as well, please.

  4. Add filter options to the 'Export File' API

The 'Export to file' API endpoint is a great addition to the API, however, I was surprised to see that there is no way of passing in filter/slicer options.

Bookmarks can be applied, and are suggested as a workaround - but this isn't suitable for our use case.

We want to be able to generate PDF for sending out to multiple users - but need to set filters programatically - bookmarks wont let us do this.

Idea: Add Filter Options to the API Request Body - With capabilities similar to the JavaScript embedding API => (Filter Types, Operators, Values, and…

  5. Dataflows Direct Query

Dataflows would be really useful if you could connect to them via DirectQuery. This would mean that we could query enormous dataflows that are not practical to load to the Data model and can make aggregate dataflows that we load to the Data model.

Unsure if this is possible with the architecture of a Dataflow, but it could be quite handy if it is possible.

  6. Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence

The new Dataflows concept looks really interesting and holds massive potential to change the BI landscape.
Currently linking dataflows is only applicable to Premium licences. Based on how Dataflows are pitched as an Excel type approach to ETL I find it unusual that linked entities are only appropriate for Premium licences, especially since the analogy of an entities is a 'cell' in Excel. This is like shipping Excel with only one cell in it as a product for non-premium users. Premium capacities are only appropriate for huge organisations with hundreds of licences to make it financially viable. I would consider…

  7. One single schedule task for sequential refresh of both Dataflows + Dataset

The biggest thing that I’m missing is the ability to schedule a Dataflow, plus a Dataset (without Premium capacity). Now you can schedule both separately, but not in an automated sequential way.

  8. Hide Filters pane on Power BI Report Server

Is there any possiblity to hide Filters pane in Power BI Report server. We don't want to show the filters been used to external clients in our report for unnecessary discussion on calls.

Something like &filterPaneEnabled=false in Power BI Report Server

  10. Totals in stacked column charts

During several presentations I get questions regarding the total of stacked columns. In the current situation you can select to label all the parts of the stacked column but no grand total. I would like to see the option to add a label to the Visuals which shows the total of the stacked column (this counts for values only). Ideally this total would deviate together with the drilldowns you select, so it stays interactive whatever filters you select or subsets you create on your dashboard.

  11. Link and Calculated Entities for PRO users without Premium Capacity

Vote for this idea if you want the ability to join or append tables together in Dataflows without having a Premium Capacity available.

  12. Copy/paste M queries with dependencies from desktop apps into dataflows

Power Query, whether in Excel Desktop, Power BI Desktop, or Visual Studio, lets you copy/paste a query back and forth between query panes, and that single pasting will carry over all dependencies (if any), i.e. functions, parameters, and nested queries (via Combine or Append). This makes it very easy to migrate PQ solutions from Excel to PBI to SSAS/AAS.

My suggestion is to add a Paste action in the Power Query Online query pane, with the same smart behavior as in the desktop apps.

See this if you're not familiar with the desktop behavior I'm talking about:

  13. Lock placement of tables in relationships pane

The ability to 'lock' where tables are manually placed on the relationships pane would be very helpful. We have created a data model with security tables, secured dimensions, unsecured dimensions, and secured fact tables. When I lay out the tables in a specific way, the design is far more understandable than when placement is auto-generated. A 'lock' type of functionality to 'freeze' the table layout would be very helpful because I can more easily locate/verify (a) specific types of tables, (b) bidirectional relationships where they should be (and shouldn't be), and (c) relationship directions are accurate.

  14. Power BI JavaScript API support for Report Server

At the moment to embed reports in a intranet webpage we only have the option to put ?rs:Embed=True at the end of the url.

I have read (on this website) that there are plans to extend this so parameters could also be passed in the url, in a similar way that the current SSRS works.

Could we also have the Power BI JavaScript API enabled for Power BI Report Server, in a similar way to the Azure service has ?

  15. Export to Excel from PowerBI Embedded

Please provide the ability to export PowerBI Embedded reports to excel. The same functionality that exists on PBI Service.
It is important to also increase export limit.

  16. Provide option to 'Publish to Report Server' instead of 'Save As' on Power BI Desktop for Report Server

While using PBI Desktop for PBIRS would be a lot better to have an option under the menu Publish rather on Save As in order to save a report to the Power BI Report Server.

  17. Show thumbnails of Power BI reports (same as the Mobile Reports)

Mobile Reports have a sample preview of what the underlying report looks like. Users find this useful when looking for the report they need. Can this be done for the Power BI tiles?

  18. Give Power BI desktop for Report Server also the Preview options

    Hi,

At the moment there is a difference between PowerBI Desktop for Report Server and the "normal" PowerBI Desktop. I want to use the ShapeMaps, Visio Visual also. But this is not possible yet.

  19. Add the ability to categorize reports with virtual categories beside the folder structure

Currently in the report server you are only allowed to group the reports based on folder structures, which we are using currently to manage also the permission needed to access the reports, but what we want as the we want to keep managing the permission based on folder structure but we want to view the reports based on different categorize and sub-categorize,

The reason for this is that you want to manage the permission of reports in a different way than organizing the reports.

we have like 700+ SSRS reports, and it is difficult to tie the permission structure with…

  20. Power BI Report Server view Office Docs browser

In the August 2017 preview support was added to view Excel files in the browser with the addition of Office Online Server. Now that we have that ability why are we being limited to just Excel. I would like to be able to view Word, PowerPoint, etc. In the browser and not just have to download them. Thanks.

Thanks for submitting this idea, Dan!

We’d love to hear more about how people imagine they’d use this feature. What types of Word documents or PowerPoint presentations would you want to store in Power BI Report Server rather than in more general-purpose document storage (SharePoint, OneDrive, file share, etc.)? Comment below!
