Currently, the API allows to update data source details for a report on the SSRS portal. However, the data source details in the pbix file uploaded remains unchanged. Only way to fix this is by opening the pbix file using “Edit in Power BI Desktop” option and re-saving the report with the new connection details. Need an ability to update the data source info using the API.28 votes
We are using ADFS+WAP+PBI Report Server, but its not working for Mobile Application. I can authenticate to Mobile Application, but can not open any report.
Without control over spacing of columns and bars, data labels can overlap each other and aesthetically, the chart looks cramped.
Please add a configurable spacing parameter like the "gap width" in Excel charts to allow for better visual control.484 votes
Under the x-axis card in the formatting pane, you have several settings that can help with this.
Minimum category width lets you force the bars to be wider, enabling more readable data labels (but more scrolling).
Maximum size lets you increase the percentage of the visual the axis labels will take up, which can make the visual more readable if the labels are long.
And finally inner padding controls the gap between the bars in proportion to the bar size.
Using a combination of these features to enable to you make the labels on your visuals readable.
I would like to be able to format a column in a table or matrix based on values of a different measure, or based on values of the same measure in a different row of the table.
1. Conditional formatting of sales amount based on the value of sales amount last month(green if higher, red if lower etc.).
2. Conditional formatting of sales amount based on sales goal(higher/lower than goal, and how far from target)342 votes
Glad to report that we’ve now shipped this feature as part of our May update! https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-2018-feature-summary/#conditionalFormatting
The bing map should have a button( +,-) on top of it for zooming capabilities.3 votes
We finished this feature as part of our March update! You can read about it here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-march-2019-feature-summary/#zoom
I have a large set of options from which I would like to pick some specific ones and use them in a slicer to filter my data.
Currently, this is not possible while it is an implemented feature for other chart types.
I'm currently using a 100% stacked column chart as a workaround.2,829 votes
I’m happy to say this is now complete! In the June 2019 release of Power BI Desktop you’ll see you can set visual level filters on slicers. There’s one known issue where applying a measure filter to a slicer in range mode causes the visual to show an error. We’ll release a fix in an interim update before the July release.
Thanks for your patience and your votes, everyone!
Ability to select/click a row on the table or chart and be able to contextually go to another report , with appropriate filters. This is only useful when we are able to hide the pages in the report and they appear only when something is(row or cell) selected on a table or similar chart.1,434 votes
I’m pleased to say that the September release of Power BI Desktop includes the capability to drill between report pages. More details in the blog post here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-september-2017-feature-summary/
There are a couple of related ideas that you can vote on if you’d find them useful:
Drill into an SSRS report:
Drill to a transaction details page:
Thanks for your support and votes!
The "Power BI Desktop" tool for Power BI Report Server looks pretty much the same as the standard "Power BI Desktop" tool.
Please rename it to something like "Power BI Desktop for Power BI Report Server".
Also, why not have an icon to represent it? Such as including a server symbol behind the Power BI icon?
I understand the need to have different tools due to the different release cycles therefore would be important to make the On-Premises version is more specific.29 votes
With the latest release of Power Bi Report Server, we’ve changed the icon colors for the Desktop version that ships with it to differentiate this from the version in the cloud service! Thanks for this great idea and we hope you like the latest release!
We now have a great Slicer for dates, which is presented as a Slider, but it would be great to have a similar Slider Slicer for values too.
eg, If I have a field called 'Customer Balance' and want to give the end user the ability to filter down between two values (Customer Balances between 1000 & 10000), then a standard Slicer is not suitable as it just lists the balances. A Slider based Slicer will fill this role.217 votes
This has been in preview for some time and is now generally available. You can add numeric fields to slicers and select a range of values. We don’t yet support measures (you would actually need to specify a measure and a category to slice on) but that’s something we’re considering – please create a new suggestion for that! One workaround is to create a summary table with the measure/category and slice on that.
Thanks for the votes everyone!
At this time, a gateway will not function properly if you are using data sources and one is online and one is on-prem. As soon as the online data source is added, the gateway is designed to gray out because Power BI interprets that it is no longer needed. I would like to be able to combine data sources from both on-prem and online sources together with the use of gateways.1,318 votes
Was finished a while back…marking as finished
Automated column profiling:
when data from any source is transformed into a table form, an automated profiling of the values in each column displayed in the form of a histogram just above each column header can give a really good insight about the data quality and further aid the analyst in guiding through the data preparation process.6 votes
We’re glad to let you know that this feature is now Generally Available. Please refer to the Power BI Desktop April release announcement for more details: powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-d..
Thanks for your feedback!
Within Power BI Report server there is a download drop down menu in the top right corner of the page which offers options to download "Power BI Desktop", "Mobile Report Publisher", "Report Builder" and "Power BI Mobile".
There needs to be an option to disable these. Ideally at a granular level but at the very least the option to disable the actual drop down menu.
This would allow for a clean interface and the removal of options that our end users do not need and cannot actually use as they are not allowed to install applications.44 votes
We’re happy to report that we’ve added the option to hide the Download menu in SSRS 2017 (now generally available: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlrsteamblog/2017/10/02/sql-server-2017-reporting-services-now-generally-available/) and to our upcoming release of Power BI Report Server as well (targeting this quarter — Q4 CY 2017). Just set the system property ShowDownloadMenu=False (you can use SQL Server Management Studio to manage system properties).
We happened to be making an update to the Download menu, and with this feedback in mind, took the opportunity to add this option. As you can see, your feedback really does influence the product. Thanks!
Allows the PBI Admin to control creating of workspaces and apps from Power BI. We have end users who do wonderful things on their own, but when they publish Apps we have no way to vet and "certify" that they are sharing good data. Would prefer to be able to control what gets published outside of the "my workspace" area. Don't care if they share with others, but doing a new workspace and especially an App needs to be admin approved. With 5,000 employees we can't have 5,000 apps all called "Payroll" or "timesheet tracking" or "overhead"...22 votes
The idea would be that Custom Visuals can be downloaded to a local desktop "library". Then, each time you launch Power BI, all Custom Visuals would be available along with the Default Visuals. Having to import the Custom Visual each time you create a new .PBIX file is a pain!510 votes
with the ability to personalize your visualization pane
you can now pin any visuals from the marketplace to your viz pane and will show up side by side with the default visuals across all the reports when you create a new content or edit existing one. you need to be logged in.
please see short video and description here:
the feature is still in preview and you should enable it in the desktop.
Thanks for submitting your idea!
Please provide the ability to connect to Analysis Services (Tabular) from Power BI Embedded124 votes
As of June 2017,
The Power BI service and Power BI Embedded came together to offer a single API for embedding your dashboards and reports.
This means you now have one API surface, a consistent set of capabilities and access to the latest Power BI features – such as dashboards, gateways and app workspaces – when embedding your content.
You can read more about it here- https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-developer-embedding/
For those who work with the Power BI Embedded Workspace Collection solution, we built a migration tool for easier data transition.
See more info here- https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-developer-migrate-tool/
Hi, Power BI allows us to create great insights supporting our daily jobs. While we can use the desktop version in my company, we have a security issue with publishing to Cloud. Data protection is heavily focused.
To avoid breaking any internal rules on data protection, we would definitely benefit from option where PowerBI mobile would allow users to open local files without having them pushed to Cloud via Publish function in PBI desktop.
Viewing local files works great with Word/Excel/PowerPoint on mobile.
Thanks for considering / reply
Power BI Report Server which was announced GA this month, enable users to use their iOS and Android Power BI mobile apps and connect to on premises servers to view Power BI reports, mobile reports and KPIs.
To have some kind of filter bookmarks so to "save" recurring searches or slicers slections (and avoiding repeating over and over select/unselect to surf in the data).179 votes
I’m marking this idea is complete. Between bookmarking, sync slicers, and the retain filters feature in the Power BI Service, we have lots of ways to save filters, reduce the need to repeat filtering, and remember filters for later. If there is a specific use case you have not covered by one of these features, please create a new idea for it.
Export a report directly in Excel (not only via csv file)1,142 votes
Exporting to Excel from Power BI is supported. You have two options for exporting your data to Excel:
- Once you publish to the Power BI service, you can export your data to Excel by clicking on the … button for any visual. See more info here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-export-data/
- You can use the Analyze in Excel feature to connect directly to your model in Excel: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-analyze-in-excel/
Currently File size to host on Power BI Report Server (on premise) is 100MB.
Please Increase the maximum file size to 2GB if possible.
1) I asked the question in the forum: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Power-BI-Report-Server-Excel-file-size-hosting-How-to-Increase/m-p/260648
2) For SharePoint 2013, we can do like ... https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/sammykailini/2013/11/06/how-to-increase-the-maximum-upload-size-in-sharepoint-2013/11 votes
Thanks for your feedback! With the Power BI Report Server update released earlier this week, we’ve enhanced the report server to support upload and storage of much larger files, increased the default file size limit to 1 GB, and allowed you to increase it further to 2 GB if you like.
The timeline slicer (Custom Visualization) functions, but it is not a friendly tool. If I quickly want to select a "Start" and "End" date for a date range, it would be more helpful to have a popup calendar with an optional freeform text box for both the "Start" and "End" date ranges.1,004 votes
I’m very pleased to say we’ve shipped a much improved date slicer in the October release of PBI Desktop. More details are available here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-october-feature-summary/#reportView
