The "Publish to web" setting for portal administrators currently has the options of 'Enabled' or 'Disabled'. It would be beneficial to have this manageable in the same way as content packs so certain security (AAD) groups could be set as publishers.133 votes
Great news (and sorry for the late update). We added granular admin controls for Publish to web, so you can choose which of your users can create or are excluded from creating Publish to web embed codes. Just go to the Power BI Admin portal, expand Tenant Settings, expand Publish to web and you’ll see the options. Here’s the documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-admin-portal#tenant-settings
Per today you cannot show the bookmark pane in embedded power bi reports. It would be good to have the option to
1) show the bookmark pane in embedded (like with the filter pane)
2) An extension to 1 would be to retrieve bookmarks and set them programatically to the report. As the filter / bookmark pane is not that goodlooking in an embedded report as i power bi service.30 votes
More flexible Conditional Formatting in Tables and matrixes.
The current color customization in tables is very limiting. I need more than 3 color choices.
I should be able to add multiple values and assign colors to each.407 votes
Since the creation of this idea back in 2016, we have added much more flexibility to conditional formatting.
Two particularly powerful updates include…
Format based on rules: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-november-2017-feature-summary/#conditionalFormatting
Format based on another column: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-2018-feature-summary/#conditionalFormatting
Of course we will continue adding even more functionality to conditional formatting, but this idea now to generic to be useful. There are many specific conditional formatting ideas on this site, so please, if we are still missing something you need, vote on it so we can continue to add valuable updates for you!
A typical website nowadays is responsive, but Power BI reports are not. Embedding them in a website might lead to a bad user experience on mobile devices. Embedding reports using the phone layout (or a similar responsive layout) would be great for use cases where mobile devices are targeted from the website.19 votes
I would love to be able to change the word 'Total' to anything such as Grand Total, YTD Total, or to remove the word completely but still retain the numerical values.15 votes
Currently, the API allows to update data source details for a report on the SSRS portal. However, the data source details in the pbix file uploaded remains unchanged. Only way to fix this is by opening the pbix file using “Edit in Power BI Desktop” option and re-saving the report with the new connection details. Need an ability to update the data source info using the API.28 votes
Without control over spacing of columns and bars, data labels can overlap each other and aesthetically, the chart looks cramped.
Please add a configurable spacing parameter like the "gap width" in Excel charts to allow for better visual control.484 votes
Under the x-axis card in the formatting pane, you have several settings that can help with this.
Minimum category width lets you force the bars to be wider, enabling more readable data labels (but more scrolling).
Maximum size lets you increase the percentage of the visual the axis labels will take up, which can make the visual more readable if the labels are long.
And finally inner padding controls the gap between the bars in proportion to the bar size.
Using a combination of these features to enable to you make the labels on your visuals readable.
There should be a trial test for Power BI Premium. At least limited to only one workgroup, and only 1GB per dataset as it is for Power BI PRO. This way we can test its capacity and way to interact with Power BI Service and SQL Reporting Services (SSRS).29 votes
You can get a trial Power BI Premium.
But you must get the code from your account manager.
We are using ADFS+WAP+PBI Report Server, but its not working for Mobile Application. I can authenticate to Mobile Application, but can not open any report.
I would like to be able to format a column in a table or matrix based on values of a different measure, or based on values of the same measure in a different row of the table.
1. Conditional formatting of sales amount based on the value of sales amount last month(green if higher, red if lower etc.).
2. Conditional formatting of sales amount based on sales goal(higher/lower than goal, and how far from target)335 votes
Glad to report that we’ve now shipped this feature as part of our May update! https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-2018-feature-summary/#conditionalFormatting
The bing map should have a button( +,-) on top of it for zooming capabilities.3 votes
We finished this feature as part of our March update! You can read about it here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-march-2019-feature-summary/#zoom
I have a large set of options from which I would like to pick some specific ones and use them in a slicer to filter my data.
Currently, this is not possible while it is an implemented feature for other chart types.
I'm currently using a 100% stacked column chart as a workaround.2,801 votes
I’m happy to say this is now complete! In the June 2019 release of Power BI Desktop you’ll see you can set visual level filters on slicers. There’s one known issue where applying a measure filter to a slicer in range mode causes the visual to show an error. We’ll release a fix in an interim update before the July release.
Thanks for your patience and your votes, everyone!
Ability to select/click a row on the table or chart and be able to contextually go to another report , with appropriate filters. This is only useful when we are able to hide the pages in the report and they appear only when something is(row or cell) selected on a table or similar chart.1,427 votes
I’m pleased to say that the September release of Power BI Desktop includes the capability to drill between report pages. More details in the blog post here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-september-2017-feature-summary/
There are a couple of related ideas that you can vote on if you’d find them useful:
Drill into an SSRS report:
Drill to a transaction details page:
Thanks for your support and votes!
The "Power BI Desktop" tool for Power BI Report Server looks pretty much the same as the standard "Power BI Desktop" tool.
Please rename it to something like "Power BI Desktop for Power BI Report Server".
Also, why not have an icon to represent it? Such as including a server symbol behind the Power BI icon?
I understand the need to have different tools due to the different release cycles therefore would be important to make the On-Premises version is more specific.29 votes
With the latest release of Power Bi Report Server, we’ve changed the icon colors for the Desktop version that ships with it to differentiate this from the version in the cloud service! Thanks for this great idea and we hope you like the latest release!
We now have a great Slicer for dates, which is presented as a Slider, but it would be great to have a similar Slider Slicer for values too.
eg, If I have a field called 'Customer Balance' and want to give the end user the ability to filter down between two values (Customer Balances between 1000 & 10000), then a standard Slicer is not suitable as it just lists the balances. A Slider based Slicer will fill this role.216 votes
This has been in preview for some time and is now generally available. You can add numeric fields to slicers and select a range of values. We don’t yet support measures (you would actually need to specify a measure and a category to slice on) but that’s something we’re considering – please create a new suggestion for that! One workaround is to create a summary table with the measure/category and slice on that.
Thanks for the votes everyone!
At this time, a gateway will not function properly if you are using data sources and one is online and one is on-prem. As soon as the online data source is added, the gateway is designed to gray out because Power BI interprets that it is no longer needed. I would like to be able to combine data sources from both on-prem and online sources together with the use of gateways.1,307 votes
Was finished a while back…marking as finished
Automated column profiling:
when data from any source is transformed into a table form, an automated profiling of the values in each column displayed in the form of a histogram just above each column header can give a really good insight about the data quality and further aid the analyst in guiding through the data preparation process.6 votes
We’re glad to let you know that this feature is now Generally Available. Please refer to the Power BI Desktop April release announcement for more details: powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-d..
Thanks for your feedback!
Within Power BI Report server there is a download drop down menu in the top right corner of the page which offers options to download "Power BI Desktop", "Mobile Report Publisher", "Report Builder" and "Power BI Mobile".
There needs to be an option to disable these. Ideally at a granular level but at the very least the option to disable the actual drop down menu.
This would allow for a clean interface and the removal of options that our end users do not need and cannot actually use as they are not allowed to install applications.44 votes
We’re happy to report that we’ve added the option to hide the Download menu in SSRS 2017 (now generally available: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlrsteamblog/2017/10/02/sql-server-2017-reporting-services-now-generally-available/) and to our upcoming release of Power BI Report Server as well (targeting this quarter — Q4 CY 2017). Just set the system property ShowDownloadMenu=False (you can use SQL Server Management Studio to manage system properties).
We happened to be making an update to the Download menu, and with this feedback in mind, took the opportunity to add this option. As you can see, your feedback really does influence the product. Thanks!
Allows the PBI Admin to control creating of workspaces and apps from Power BI. We have end users who do wonderful things on their own, but when they publish Apps we have no way to vet and "certify" that they are sharing good data. Would prefer to be able to control what gets published outside of the "my workspace" area. Don't care if they share with others, but doing a new workspace and especially an App needs to be admin approved. With 5,000 employees we can't have 5,000 apps all called "Payroll" or "timesheet tracking" or "overhead"...22 votes
The idea would be that Custom Visuals can be downloaded to a local desktop "library". Then, each time you launch Power BI, all Custom Visuals would be available along with the Default Visuals. Having to import the Custom Visual each time you create a new .PBIX file is a pain!508 votes
with the ability to personalize your visualization pane
you can now pin any visuals from the marketplace to your viz pane and will show up side by side with the default visuals across all the reports when you create a new content or edit existing one. you need to be logged in.
please see short video and description here:
the feature is still in preview and you should enable it in the desktop.
Thanks for submitting your idea!
