  1. Closer integration with Microsoft Cognitive Services APIs

Power BI/Cognitive Services combination could be a killer app but it needs to be made more accessible.

There are third party documented methods for accessing Microsoft Cognitive Services APIs from Power BI but the process is a little convoluted and does not work for asynchronous APIs such as Text Analytics Topic API.

My suggestion would be to add an "Analytics" tab to list the available cognitive services.

Integration of Power BI sign-ins and Cognitive Services sign-ins would also be handy.

  2. Custom Tooltips on Hover

Custom "tooltips" when hovering over a point on a visual. Month after month, I am required to offer Analysis & Actions narrative for how we're performing. It would be nice to see this by hovering over a point on a visual rather than take up valuable real estate with a text box.

  3. Commentary option

If you could give readers of a report or dashboard the opportunity to comment on the figures they see, it would add enormous value.

  5. Create new dataset from R by doing calculations on data loaded in PowerBI already

The current R data connector forces you to pull data into R directly from the source (CSV, etc.) in order to run calculations and have the results show up as a PowerBI dataset. It would be very useful to be able to do R calculations from data sources already pulled into PowerBI instead, and then create a new data source from those.

  6. Decomposition Tree Visualization Type

Multiple requests from groups that would like to see a decomposition tree. Typically they are from Proclarity/PerformancePoint world.

  7. Transfer of ownership of created dashboards

It would be great if there was an option to tranfer ownership of created reports and dashboards. This way, work would not have to be duplicated if the original creator was to leave the company/change roles/etc.

  8. Allow R functions to transform data before graphing.

Let custom R script modify current tables, and let the result set be returned back into PowerBI's charting capabilities. This is similar to the idea of having custom SQL statements as filters for your data source. Having R functions modifying your data before graphing is even more powerful.

  9. Need usage metrics on organizational content packs

People who publish organizational content packs need to know who is using them, who has personalized them. Also the IT organization of a company needs to know this for all content packs published to their Power BI tenant

Yep, I think people will enjoy usage monitoring for individual reports and dashboards as well.

  10. Pass data from another source as input to the R.Execute() function

The R.Execute() Power Query function only allows you to use R for ingesting data. Ideally, make R.Execute() more powerful by making it a data transformation function as well as data source. Let data be loaded from other sources, and then R.Execute() could be called in a subsequent step in the Power Query query.

    let
    Source = Excel.Workbook(File.Contents("C:\[...].xlsx"), null, true),
    Custom1 = R.Execute("df<-data.frame(Source) [...]")
    in
    Custom1

Transformations could all be done in R first, but it's slower in general, and you lose the convenience of blending data in Power BI itself.

  11. SSRS Reports for drill down into detailed reports

I think using SSRS type of reports to show detailed information that make up measures dispalayed on the dashboard would be useful. Currently I do that in performance point using actions from my tabular models. I think if that was included this would be a full replacement to performance point.

  12. Report Filter Doesn't Save

I am not sure if this is known or not but with the recent report filter coming in, it doesn't save the filter when you exit out of the report unlike the page filters which save.

If this is intentional would it be possible to have the option to save this filter.

  13. Ability to add Feedback or Questions on Dashboard

Would be great if we had a notes area of the Dashboard for people to leave comments or questions about the content on the Dashboard. Same would be true for the PowerView Reports, except have them rollup in the Dashboard area.

  14. Failed auto-refresh should not cancel the refresh schedule

Currently if auto-refresh fails, the refresh schedule is disabled meaning IT has to go in and re-enable the schedule for each data connection after any ill-timed service outage. Sadly, the schedule is also disabled silently so unless IT checks in on the dashboard they have no way of knowing refresh is turned off.

As mentioned before, we’ll still disable refresh if we notice that refresh fails consistently, but this time we’ll send you an email to inform you why we turned off refresh.

  15. Allow Power BI Designer to open a Dataset or Report published in online Power BI repository

If you setup a data source using the Power BI Analysis Services Connector that shows up in the Power BI online Dataset repository you should allow the use of that dataset directly from the Power BI Designer.

This will allow you to publish reports using the already shared dataset and it also gives you a better experience querying a tabular data source then the Power BI Designer does now when connecting directly to the tabular instance.

I would say this should also apply to any other 3rd party data source created there for the likes GitHub, Salesforce, etc.

    You should…

  16. Need a way to test a dashboard before releasing to production.

Need a way to test a dashboard (some sort of a dev environment) before releasing (to production environment). This is especially critical in enterprise settings, where any change to the dashboard will likely have large business impact affecing a large number of people.

We’re doing several improvements to the overall manageability, collaborative authoring, and organization of dashboards/reports. Having a pre-release test environment is a key component of the forward roadmap.

  17. Provide sort for line graphs

The sort feature is not available on line graphs, therefore visualising date charts is almost impossible the data is only displayed in volume descending order. I've had a customer turn away purely because they prefer line charts to bar charts...

  18. MS Access

MS Access is also a key data source. Power BI should be able to connect to the same. Access allows to create consolidated files from various data sources into one table which then can contain valuable data and business insight.

    Hi,
we are working on supporting MS Access as data source that can be refreshed from.

You can today connect to Access from Power Query or the Power BI Designer and build reports, dashboards on it. Soon we’ll also release the capability to refresh these reports from within Power BI.

    Hi,
The initial phase of this capability is already available in the latest release of Power BI apps.

We are still working on improving the experience.
    Stay tuned!

  20. R Integration can be enables for Predective Analytics

Power Bi should enable R Integration which is the best for Predictive Analytics now-a-days
