  2. Combine multiple Gateway in single dataset/report

Currently, all data sources in a Power BI report/dataset, that are not on cloud, must be available in a single Gateway to work.

But if the datasources in the report are coming from different Gateways, that doesn't work. It is not possible to combine them for refresh.

Say I have a Sales Report. It connects to DB A, B and C.

DB A and B is configured in Gateway X
DB C is configured in Gateway Y.

The report creator have been provided access to all of them.

Now if I try to configure data refresh in PBI Service, it…

  3. Email notifications on auto-refresh failure

The scheduled data source failure notification is only sent to the data source owner, it would be more useful if you could specify the recipient(S) or group.

  4. SAP

Connect to SAP BW with single-sign-on via on-premise gateway

Large SAP BW installations with thousands of users are often accessed via single-sign-on (SSO) e.g. the users windows credentials are used to authenticate to BW. SSO simplifies the user experience and reduces user administration costs. These users should be able to setup on-premise gateway connections that can be used to refresh data sets in the Power BI Service. The connections should leverage that individuals BW roles & authorizations and not require a BW password i.e. automatically associate the Power BI user ID to the associated SAP user ID.

  5. Pass SSO user credentials through the Power BI gateway

We need the user SSO credentials to be passed through Gateway connections to Denodo Data Virtualisation layer to be able to securely federate our data/analytics report queries

  6. Make on-premises data gateway Enterprise ready

User should be able to create their own data source connection without having admin rights to the Power BI Data Gateway. There should create data source rights.

Admin rights give ability to see each connection which isn't secure.

Users have to depend on Power BI Admin to create data connection each time and provide Server, Database, UserID, and password details to Admin each time they create a new database connection.

  7. Support for docker installation

It Would be nice to install PowerBi gateway to docker instead of dedicated virtual machine. Dedicated VM -> just waste of resources, docker offers better automation and failover as well.

  8. Gateway in Linux

In Latin America there are companies that use Power BI but they have their databases on servers in Linux, but to automate the updates we must install the GATEWEY and in linux the gatewey cannot be installed, you should develop this option to install in linux.

  9. Data Gateway configuration - ability to update details

As I understand it, once a PBI Data Gateway data source has been set up, it is not possible to update the source server (or other details) when databases move (as they do quite a bit hereabouts). I am told we have to set up the data source afresh and then go chasing all the PBI files that use it and switch sources - this is far too cumbersome). Please provide data source configuration editting ability.

  11. Allow .xls to refresh via Enterprise Gateway

Desktop can point to an .xls file (accessed from SharePoint online) but when you push this to PBI service and try to refresh it does not work. Please allow .xls to refresh via Enterprise Gateway.

  12. Gateway Usage monitoring tools for Power BI Service

As Power Bi and other applications in the Power Platform become more prolific within the BI Cloudscape and Landscape integration, gateways will become used more and more. Having visibility to the capacity of a gateway, the volume of traffic through the gateway, which datasources are used more frequently than others, which types, etc would be a very useful resource to have within the Gateway management system.

  13. Remove Personal Gateway automatically for users who have left the organization

When the user is no longer part of the organization, their Personal Gateway should be automatically deleted from the Power BI service. Currently, there is no mechanism to do this apart from taking over the user account and logging in as the user. Even though the Personal Gateway cannot be used for refreshes, it clogs up the personal gateway lists and makes it difficult to identify which ones need to be actioned upon.

  14. PowerBI Gateway - Add Azure SQL Database as a datasource connection type

We're using PBI gateways to secure traffic / queries to Azure SQL Database. We are doing this by deploying the gateway on a VM in Azure, restricting access to the DB to sources on that Virtual Network with a VNET firewall rule. So, PBI datasources that use this Azure SQL DB have to run through the gateway.

The PBI gateway currently only allows a "SQL Server" connection type which is limited in a few ways: 1) Windows Auth doesn't work in this scenario - not supported, Azure SQL isn't part of the domain even though we can add add AAD…

  15. Please allow monthly refresh of data on the schedule refresh option in server. (and let us choose the date, like 4th of every month)

It is a suggestion for allowing monthly refresh where the user can select the date on which it needs to be refreshed as well

  16. Active Directory/Microsoft Account authentication in Power BI Gateway for SQL Server

To setup SQL Server (Azure SQL Managed Instance) datasources in Power BI gateway, we have two authentication methods: Windows, Basic. There is no option for Organizational Accounts/Active Directory/Microsoft Account.

Please introduce this, as we are trying to limit SQL user access, and rather rely on Active Directory

  17. Skip Test Connection

When you tick 'Skip Test Connection' the connection status is 'Connection Successful' even though the connections has not been tests.

  19. Greater Control of Gateway Cluster List

I'd like to be able to group gateways together based locally defined criteria; and then be able to sort those gateways within the group either by alpha order or date of creation or whatever I choose. I have full ability to sort my bank accounts; why not DMGs :) ?

  20. Live refresh monitoring!!

We need ability to monitor gateway refreshes in real-time:
-have an overall view of what's running right now: datasets, workspace, gateways, memory, CPU. We have it in the PBI capacity metrics, but only, the day after that is not helping for live monitoring.
-ability to cancel a refresh when it has started
-use past stats to provide some ETA on refresh currently running, and provide a way to display that ETA on a report
-see the "true" current state (not just the wheel running) often it's broken but we see the error only 2 hours after
    Thanks!
