  1. DAX Measure Templates

I'd like the ability to create measure templates. Where I could define a DAX calculation and then specify variables in the calculation that I could replace.

I pick the template I wont to use, am prompted to replace the variables and then the actual measure gets created in the model.

It would feel a bit like the funcationality in SQL Management Studio when you can use the "specify values for template parameters" option on a SQL script.

A typical use case would be when creating time intelligence calculations, the calculations all follow the same pattern, it's just the measure that…

  2. Financial Year Offset month parameter ie: 30Jun

a parameter that is set for a query once that basically says all date methods and calculations now should work to 30-Jun and not 30 Dec . Date Slicer also should work with this offset.

  3. include a load to button under the query name in the power query editor

Inside the Power Query editor window, it would be nice to have a load to button next to it, instead of having to mouse over to the left most of the screen on top to load the data.

Hi, and thanks for the feedback! We would really struggle to do this as we expect the Designer to always be ahead of Excel in terms of available functionality. We’re releasing updates to the Designer every month, so you’d not be able to open those in Excel. We can reconsider this in future if there’s lots of support for it!

  6. copy charts between report sheers

cut and paste between report sheets in the online Power BI service site - cannot copy a chart and paste it to a new report sheet.

  7. streaming, incremental or approximate queries for faster manipulation

    Check this
    http://research.microsoft.com/apps/pubs/default.aspx?id=153555
    specially the video sampleAction

I'm convince that Power BI Designer is the tool for this. and microsoft has the researcher ready...
this can have a so huge added value.

  8. Calculated column (Data model) vs custom column (Query)

Pre-emotively speaking i'm sensing there will be confusion between calculated columns and the custom column you can insert in the query layer. Might be a good idea to contemplate merging these two as just adding a "new column" either from the report view or the query view.

realise that the underlying language is M and the calculated columns language so it isn't an easy decision. I would pick M only due to the big scripting component behind the scenes of Query.

Would love to see what others think of this.

  9. Invoke function as new query

Let me right-click a function and choose something like "Invoke as" to pass parameters and give a name to a query to be created.

  10. Import multiple tables at the same time from mult-dimensional sources

When using the Navigator, it would be nice to import multiple tables at the same time, limit the preview on any table to no more than 100 records for performance, and load the data into the same corresponding table structure and maintain the table names as well. Combining data from multiple tables into a single table causes some confusion in the UI.

  11. Allow canceling of report actions, or defer layout updates

Sometimes clicking the wrong field means you have to wait a long time for the visual to refresh before you can change it. Let me either cancel the change/refresh or "Defer Layout Updates" as in Excel pivot tables

  12. Include Pivot Table Show Value As Calculations

It would be great to have the Excel Show Value As calculations from Pivot Tables available in Power BI. This would provide easy access to a wide range of calculations such as - Percentage calculations, Rankings, Running Totals and Difference From without having to figure out PowerPivot calculations.

  13. Power BI Designer API

Power BI Designer saves a local PBIX file, which can be a file to export data and data model – in other words, it’s a format that contains a complete semantic model. All the applications that today export data in several formats (CSV, Excel, XML), might provide a richer semantic model exporting a PBIX file.

Many ISV/SI that have OLTP and other applications that stores data in some database, usually struggle to offer a compelling BI story to their customers. The smaller they are, the more they feel this pressure because probably the effort they can put in their custom…

  14. Allow the desktop client edit reports on X.powerbi.com

I have a report I made in the web view, it would be good to be able to edit it in the desktop client.

  16. open recent reports

In PBI Designer there is an option to open an existing report. It would be great if this showed you a list of your most recently open reports (i.e. a MRU list). Even better would be if the MRU list synced across devices, just as it does for Excel/Word/PowerPoint these days.

  18. In app formula library

I think it would be helpful if there was some sort of formula library where if I don't know the exact syntax of a formula there would be an in-app place where I can find the syntax rather than having to look at a PDF or some other online library.

  19. Filter by fields not included in the data set when pulling from SSAS in the Designer

When pulling data in from a SSAS cube it would be nice to be able to filter the results by a certain fields, but not necessarily include those fields in the data set. This would reduce the size of the dataset coming back over the network.

  20. Use Expression.Evaluate in Power Query with other formula syntax

What would really be useful is this: to be able to tell Power Query to EVALUATE based on desired source syntax, whether it be Excel, PowerPivot (DAX) or SQL. It would work like automation, but only get the appropriate “formula” engine. Something like Expression.Evaluate(FormulaEvaluator.PowerPivotAddin(“MyDAXFormula”)).
