  1. Calculated column (Data model) vs custom column (Query)

Pre-emotively speaking i'm sensing there will be confusion between calculated columns and the custom column you can insert in the query layer. Might be a good idea to contemplate merging these two as just adding a "new column" either from the report view or the query view.

realise that the underlying language is M and the calculated columns language so it isn't an easy decision. I would pick M only due to the big scripting component behind the scenes of Query.

Would love to see what others think of this.

  2. streaming, incremental or approximate queries for faster manipulation

    Check this
    http://research.microsoft.com/apps/pubs/default.aspx?id=153555
    specially the video sampleAction

I'm convince that Power BI Designer is the tool for this. and microsoft has the researcher ready...
this can have a so huge added value.

  3. More insights required when loading a query

Please download this .pbix: http://1drv.ms/19kbMxs, open it and try and load data into the reports (you will need to create a data source setting for http://sqlblog.com in order to do so). It takes quite a long time to run so please be patient.
The query attempts to load data from http://sqlblog.com, it does so by getting a list of bloggers from this blogging site, then iterating over them and requesting more information from the site for each one.

Notice that the last step in the query adds a field called "YearMonth". With this step as part of the…

  4. include a load to button under the query name in the power query editor

Inside the Power Query editor window, it would be nice to have a load to button next to it, instead of having to mouse over to the left most of the screen on top to load the data.

  5. Allow arbitrary mapping boundaries

It would be great if we could somehow load arbitrary boundaries say via GeoJSON or other geospatial format. Then a category could map against the categories in that boundary file.

For example, maybe we have neighborhood designations that vary or special districts that would be unique across jurisdictions. Rather than try to guess every possible boundary, let us load in the file as related data to map against.

  6. Allow the desktop client edit reports on X.powerbi.com

I have a report I made in the web view, it would be good to be able to edit it in the desktop client.

  7. Invoke function as new query

Let me right-click a function and choose something like "Invoke as" to pass parameters and give a name to a query to be created.

  8. In app formula library

I think it would be helpful if there was some sort of formula library where if I don't know the exact syntax of a formula there would be an in-app place where I can find the syntax rather than having to look at a PDF or some other online library.

  11. Filter by fields not included in the data set when pulling from SSAS in the Designer

When pulling data in from a SSAS cube it would be nice to be able to filter the results by a certain fields, but not necessarily include those fields in the data set. This would reduce the size of the dataset coming back over the network.

  12. Use Expression.Evaluate in Power Query with other formula syntax

What would really be useful is this: to be able to tell Power Query to EVALUATE based on desired source syntax, whether it be Excel, PowerPivot (DAX) or SQL. It would work like automation, but only get the appropriate “formula” engine. Something like Expression.Evaluate(FormulaEvaluator.PowerPivotAddin(“MyDAXFormula”)).

  13. Improvement areas

1- No support for export to anywhere such as Excel and Powerpoint.
2- No support to connect to a tabular model hosted on Azure or on-premise. Power BI app does not properly display an excel sheet that contains pivot tables and slicers.
3- No rich formatting options such as changing column headers, wrapping.
4- No ability to move/copy the place of a power view sheet in an excel workbook.

It would be great if you make improvement on these areas. Thank you

  14. Add measures directly in some of the views rather than back into the data source.

We love to see the ability to add measures directly in some of the views rather than back into the data source.

  15. Provide a means to distinguish between records and lists within data in a column

Sometimes data sources such as JSON could have both records and lists within the same column. This could be because of poor data structure. Currently BI designer does not provide a means to distinguish between which cell is a list and which one is a record. column

  16. Have the visualization icons colored

As soon as we click the chart icon, we are presented with all possible visualizations possible.

If its colored we can locate them in a snap.

    Grey icons causes fatigue

  17. Query Fields <> Report Fields

I choose a subset of columns in the Query area, but all columns show in the Report area; I am expecting them to be same as in PowerPivot.

I am so impressed with what you are doing with this - you are going to set the competition on their heels.

  18. Direct connection to web service without Excel spreadsheet?

Direct connection from dashboard to web service?

Is there a way, in HTML5 and JS, to create a connection to a WebService and create a chart? Especially if I do not have a spreadsheet.

  19. SSAS tabular database live connection without using windows authentication

Currently, its only allows Power BI Deskotp to use windows authentication. Whereas SSAS tabular database live connection connectivity should allow the same behavior as MS Excel allows someone to do.

  20. Conditional Formatting Drill-through Option like Web URL

Current right click requirement of drill through makes it hard to teach end users (especially executives, and especially in mobile) It can be very useful to have drill through function on table, matrix or other charts very similar to web URL conditional formatting recently released.
