  5. desktop

At work our user accounts do not have administrator access, which means we cannot install new versions of software (including Power BI Desktop) as they are released. Is it possible to provide a mechanism (such as WSUS) by which users can have new versions of Power BI Desktop installed when they do not have administrator access?

  6. reports should be able to share slicers if desired so that entering in one report the slicer would reflect the changes on another

slicers have to be entered on different reports but it would be nice to be a able to share a slicer amount reports so that data does not need to be reentered if going to a different report

  7. Allow text in multiple lines

Many times we need to see comments on the database that is needed to understand the data. We need to see this comments in multiple lines, with paragraphs.

  8. I love powerbi, but am trying to link up Cortana and it requires a PERSONAL MICROSOFT ACCOUNT. I'll pass.

Have Microsoft let Cortana query out data through powerbi with just an office365 account. I'm not going to force my users to put a personal Microsoft account on their machines in order to use Cortana to process powerbi data.

  9. Add the ability to use FILTERS in "Get Data" in Power BI Desktop.

Today, the only way to add a filter to the GET DATA process in Power BI is to enter a custom query. that means that it is impossible to access large datasets without timing out because the "tagging fields" process pulls back too much data without a filter. Can you add the ability to use filters in the wizard, as you can now in Power Pivot, Tabular, and in Excel in the data designer wizard, into the Power BI Desktop app?

  11. Power BI Designer Connection to existing real-time Power BI data sets.

I would like to be able to use Power BI Designer with the data sets that have been automatically created by Azure Stream Analytics. Either this, or the browser based report editor experience embedded in Power BI needs to be the same as is available in the Power BI Designer. I don't mind which.

  12. Desktop Vs Cloud

Microsoft is creating 2 version for each software. Ex:
    Outlook and Outlook365.

Now you want to do the same with Power BI.

this is a good idea but when I login into Outlook on my desktop I can see what I have on Outlook365. With Power BI is not the same.

Try to make it the same, please

  13. Add new default functions to metrics n the visualization page

The default functions for metrics in the value fields on the visualization page is currently supported for sum, average, max min etc. but other standard functions like running total, percent of total etc. are still missing. Compared with other software and eg. Excel this is a set back as end users won't be able to quickly implement these kind of functions if they dont know DAX.

  14. Feature parity for the Power BI web and desktop apps.

The desktop and web apps look identical at first glance but they offer different features. It would be better to either differentiate the two more clearly from a branding POV or have the web app only offer a subset of the desktop app (assuming the desktop app is supposed to offer the most advanced functionality).

  15. Image Slicer In Desktop App.

It would be awesome if there was a way to have an image slicer visualization capability in the Desktop App. (like PowerView's image slicer)

  16. Highlighting only suitable charts based on fields chosen

We have lot of charts in the right hand pane. Based on some intelligence highlighting of fewer charts helps users a lot

  17. Design Best Practices Analyzer

A great design tool is still only as good as the designer. Fortunately the industry has well established design best practices for charts/reports/dashboards (e.g. Stephen Few, Edward Tufte). A Design Best Practices Analyzer could examine a design recommend changes to improve its utility and readability. For example: are colors used to represent categories consistently across charts? Are grid lines used to support value comparison? Is the use of ineffective visualizations (e.g. pie charts) minimized. Are quantitative scales present for appropriate axes? Do scales start at zero for bar charts? etc.

  18. Add ability to view changes done to Query

When changes are done to a query (in Advanced Editor or in UI), it would be nice to undo some steps. Also would be nice to view the history of all changes and revert some changes

  19. A canvas that can be split and have its parts filled with controls

Dragging the controls provides layout flexibility but different computers displays cause controls to overlay one another in unintended ways. A split canvas could provide scrolls and organize space better.

Hi, and thanks for the feedback! We would really struggle to do this as we expect the Designer to always be ahead of Excel in terms of available functionality. We’re releasing updates to the Designer every month, so you’d not be able to open those in Excel. We can reconsider this in future if there’s lots of support for it!
