  1. Column Level & Row Level Security for Dataflows

Ability to define rules at Row & column level, to control the data fields available to different roles (e.g. employee salary visible to the users in finance roles only, while other employee details visible to other department roles).

  3. Connect to Dataflows from Excel's Power Query

Please allow the connection to Dataflows' entities from Excel's Power Query.
There are many cases when customers use Excel and not Power BI. But Dataflows can make the refresh process much faster for them.
    Thanks

  4. Dataflow refresh fails if the underlying datasource have date field

Dataflow refresh fails if the underlying data source have date field. Currently the workaround is to convert the datatype to datetime to make it work.

  5. refresh dataflow with Flow

The new capability to refresh a dataset in Flow is great - would like to see that functionality extended to dataflows as well.

  6. Dataflows Direct Query

Dataflows would be really useful if you could connect to them via DirectQuery. This would mean that we could query enormous dataflows that are not practical to load to the Data model and can make aggregate dataflows that we load to the Data model.

Unsure if this is possible with the architecture of a Dataflow, but it could be quite handy if it is possible.

  7. Share Dataflow Ownership with Workspace Admins

We need to allow all admins of the workspace in which the dataflow is held to be able to edit the flow. Multiple people contribute to a dataflow at different stages of a project but all need to be able to review, understand and if necessary edit the dataflow

  8. View Dataflow data sizes

Enable an option to find the size/storage of a dataflow entity in Power BI service and Premium Capacity Metrics App.

  9. Measuring Power BI dataflow

Power BI dataflows provide a great medium to syndicate sets of data to business units to run analytics. It enables faster access to reporting data.

While there are highlevel utilization metrics on PBI reports, there is no way to measure dataflow utilization and uptake. It is critical to PowerBI success to understand the number of reports currently connected to any given dataflow and quantity of refreshes. Without a method to measure adoption and utilization of each dataflow, growth and ROI become guessing games.

  10. Better deployment method for Dataflows

Our policy is perform dev and test efforts separately from production, therefore we develop and test data sets and Data flows in test work spaces. Once we are satisfied with their behavior and performance, we publish them into the production workspace. With PBIT files, it is easy for us to publish approved data models and reports into the production work spaces. Because data flows are built within PBI Service and have no file association, it is difficult to migrate them from test to production. We currently have to rebuild the entire Data flow in production, which is risky an cumbersome.

  11. DataFlow Copy/Paste Queries from PBI Desktop/Excel

Ability to copy paste queries from PBI Desktop/Excel to DataFlow in PowerBI Service to create new DataFlows.

The UI in PBI is more friendly, we often design the queries in Excel and PowerBi Desktop, to copy them into service, especially for the nested queries, it's a long and arduous process of copying each one into the service from advanced Editor and matching names.

We are making a lot of data behind datasets available to the users. It'll be very convenient for major users of DataFlows

  12. Dataflow-based Datasets in service

The dataflows product is potentially very useful - I especially like the idea of being able to append historical data to incrementally refreshed data.

However, one major drawback is the fact that in order to use a dataflow in a dataset, you have to download it to the desktop, and then upload it back to the service once you've completed your data model.

It would be great if you only had to use the preview version of the dataflow in desktop, or even better, if you could do all modelling, DAX etc. completely within the service.

    If there are workarounds…

  13. SQL Server Analysis Service connection to Dataflow

Support Dataflow connections to SQL Server Analysis Service (SSAS), which desktop data sets allow users to do.

At the moment, dataflow does not even support the use of a copied M script from desktop connected to SSAS in a blank query.

    See forum post below:

  14. Dataflow REST API - Get Refresh History

Please add this operation. It is extremely useful in case of Datasets to monitor refreshes and even more important for me to check whether the refresh is stil going on or is already finished (and with what status). Based on this information I can either rerun the refresh or initialize following data transformation.

  15. ODBC driver to connect to a Dataflow

As our business analysts are becoming more adept at preparing data with Power Query "M" scripts, we are finding that collaborators want to be able to reuse the results in products besides PowerBI Desktop. It would help to have ODBC driver support to allow other analysts the ability to query the dataflow in the tool of their choice. Not all organizations have the ability to configure their own Azure Data Lake Storage or the expertise to expose the content of the Common Data Model in a business analyst friendly way. That could also help to address another idea for allowing…

  16. Ability to hide tables in final output of a Dataflow

Just like in de power query editor in the desktop version of PBI, the ability to hide some tables in the final output of a dataflow. For a client we prepare and combine all the data from different sources and add them together in the premium dataflow. But only the end result queries should be selectable.

  17. Dataflows linked entities Pro Licence

The new Dataflows concept looks really interesting and holds massive potential to change the BI landscape.
Currently linking dataflows is only applicable to Premium licences. Based on how Dataflows are pitched as an Excel type approach to ETL I find it unusual that linked entities are only appropriate for Premium licences, especially since the analogy of an entities is a 'cell' in Excel. This is like shipping Excel with only one cell in it as a product for non-premium users. Premium capacities are only appropriate for huge organisations with hundreds of licences to make it financially viable. I would consider…

  18. Take or Transfer Ownership of a Dataflow using Azure Data Lake Gen2 storage

The issue where ownership of dataflows could not be transferred has been fixed when using the default storage see: ( https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/36179125-take-or-transfer-ownership-of-a-dataflow )

This option is not working when the storage account is set to Azure Data Lake Gen2 storage.

Would it be possible to add the same "Takeover" functionality?

  19. R Transform Power Query Dataflow

It would be great to add R (And Python for that matter) scripting to a Dataflow process in Power Query Online.

  20. One single schedule task for sequential refresh of both Dataflows + Dataset

The biggest thing that I’m missing is the ability to schedule a Dataflow, plus a Dataset (without Premium capacity). Now you can schedule both separately, but not in an automated sequential way.
